Great to hear that it worked - and that you found a solution to it still being a little bit off! Now enjoy that the lights is off :D

I am wondering if you have had a front wheel alignment done recently? If not, a possible adjustment might mean that it would have been within adjustment range...

The front wheel track was done by the previous owner when the rack was re installed and she runs perfectly with no steering feel issues, so I don't think this would have changed it, but maybe the next time it is checked we will know for sure. I am just glad to have no light :D

No issues on today's test run.

On to sorting the leaking oil cooler pipes and replacing the Aircon pump that nearly burt out last weekend

Sorry to resurrect this old thread but I'll be going through the procedure soon myself.

Quick question: access to the steering rack and steering angle sensor, how does one access the sensor for steering angle adjustment? Is it done from underneath the car, without major issues?

There is also contradicting information regarding the position of the plastic tap/slot of the sensor, which one is correct, aligned front to back of the car or across and parallel to the steering rack?

I'll be installing a reconditioned rack and therefore would like to know upfront if the 90 deg rotation problem exists or not.

I find it a bit strange that some of the original racks are unpainted/unfinished, while most of the reconditioned racks seem to be black, even when done by TRW, and most of them have the sensor wires cut off.

Anything special to take into account when replacing the rack?

Many thanks in advance.

This is a bit from memory and reading this thread. You access it from the top, so put a light between the coolant reservoir and plenum and take a look. You should be able to see the rack where it joins towards the steering wheel, when putting the light at the right angle. Have a look at the photos in my dropbox folder, I link to in an earlier post.

It is possible to loosen the 2 screws and adjust it, as described, but if you want to see how it is positioned, you of course need to open it. Whether yours is moved 90deg when being reconditioned is difficult to say.

If you are going to replace the rack, you can wait to uninstall the sensor, but remember to leave the wheels straight, when taking out the rack, so you know that this is the middle position!

Have a look at this Swedish link of how to remove rack:
https://www.alfapower.nu/viewthread.php?tid=23406" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The reconditioned racks I have received have all been 'original' colour.

I seem to remember that the best way to get to the sensor was via the drivers side wheel arch! You need to remove the liner and it’s a bit of a blind operation with a lot of difficulty getting the bolt out on the opposite side of the sensor to the wheel arch

The alignment of the sensor pick up grove should be front of car to rear of car

The plastic pick up on the sensor on mine was broken, but I git one made using the 3D printing file on this site

All is still good now!

Maybe I did not provide a link for that, here it is:

But before replacing anything, make sure that the electrical connection is ok.

Unfortunately the only thing able to view in that dropbox folder is 2 drawings of the plastic piece, but no actual CAD file or dimensions.

You need a program to view the .stl files. This is directly for printing, to my knowledge. I had someone else doing all of that for me.

I have attached a zip file here, containing 2 different versions, depending on if you need to use a 90deg setup, as I did.
