Q4 - rear brakedisks

Post by 164 TD » Sun Aug 08, 2010 7:06 am

If one looks around to find new (ventilated) brakedisks for the Q4 one hase a really hard time to find them. Alfa doesn't carry them in stores anymore, they were never made aftermarket by Brembo, Bosch or Roesch and the ones sold as Q4 rearbrakes on E-Bay are actually the sold, non-ventilated ones from the 24V versions.

A thing I noticed when I went trough the Q4 servicemanuals is that the 5 hole Q4 ventilated disks carry the same measurements as the 4 hole disks of the early series TSparks!

Should the only difference be the 4 or 5 holes? The only thing I cannot find yet are the offset and the inside diameters of the drum, but that I can measure the next time I take off my rearwheels.

It sounds like an option to drill 4 extra holes in the TS disk to make 5 hole Q4 disks, but two holes will partly overlapping the TS holes. 360/4= 90 degrees ; 360/5= 72 degrees.

Thanks for that link!!

I virtually looked everywhere for new brakes. If you click on the pictures however, all but the last one (group N) has 4 iso 5 holes. When you order, make sure you will get the 5 hole version.

I still have a spare set of used ones but a link like this one gives hope for the future.

Another question; do you also experience less brakingaction on the Q4 than on the TS? (My TD has way better braking action than the Q4 !)

I re-checked CTF website, the number of holes is good (5).

And for the breaking difference between Q4 and Ts, since I don't drive them the same way, it's difficult to tell. I'll keep it in mind.

From what I understand, these are front disks.

For rear you need 257 x 20 mm

I have just bought rear discs and pads from Alfa for my Q4. Price is app. 130 euro per disc and 80 euro for a set of pads (and then a 10% discount for being member of Alfa Romeo Klub Danmark).

I put some pictures of the parts in my photobook.

Edit: pictures of an old and very worn disc is added to my book

The local, authorized Alfa parts dealer had both discs and pads, the prices I refer to are from them. I did not ask about calipers, but if the ones on yours are bad, maybe you should have them reconditioned?

Allan, I practically have given up finding new calipers for the Q4.
There are not any.

But I still try to get the discs, but I have not found any so far.
Therefore my question about your source still stands.

Alfissimo's supply has dried up? (see link in a posting here earlier. The website still lists the disc as available).

I will ask when I have to order an exhaust mount (which I hope they have). I ordered the discs in October, I think, so there should still be a chance.

Luck is a Fair Lady - sometimes. :D

A detailed Internet/Google search produced many negative results.
But one of them had the Q4 disks
http://www.q11-shop.de/shop/q11.shop?STEP=3

I suppose that today the original Alfa packages are more worth than the disks themselves.
They were 83 € each.

Jason, forgive my late response, I have been away skiing with my grandchildren :)

I was not aware, that you do "collect" and keep on stock also parts for the Q4 (guess you do not have many customers in the USA for that).
It is good to know.

As you have seen in my earlier posting, I was able to find rear brake discs.

But rear calipers for the Q4 have become a real rarity. They differ from the "standard" ones by two dimensions:

Image

The "free room" between the the caliper outer fingers and the cylinder end is 650 mm

The diameter of the piston is 43 mm. its length (hight) is 50 mm.
It is srewed into the cylinder and has for this two slots on the top.

Image

What I am searching are:
- 2 rear calipers (left and right) complete with pistons as described above

for the repair of my old calipers:
- 2 pistons (as described above)
- 2 repair kits with bellow and seal (you see them lying behind the piston in the second picture.

Do you have them available?

Many thanks for your help
